FYI – Reveilleâ is a cross between a Kentucky Bluegrass and a Texas Bluegrass. It was selected from hundreds of different crosses. This selection was based partially on its ability to survive Texas summer heat and drought with no added input of water. Reveilleâ does not tolerate excessive irrigation.

Soil – Reveilleâ has been grown successfully in a wide range of soil types and conditions. Two exceptions to this statement are soils with excessive levels of salts and soils that do not have proper drainage.

Shade – Research has shown that Reveilleâ will perform similarly to Turf-Type Tall Fescue in shade. Remember each shade situation has its own unique variables which effect success and all grass species were naturally selected from areas with full sun.

Timing – Seeding in the cool season grass areas may occur between April and mid August.  (Best times are during warm summer months)

Fertilization – A pre-plant fertilization is desirable. A blended fertilizer at a rate that adds about one pound of nitrogen per 1000 square feet applied to the surface of the soil works well.

Planting – Reveilleâ seed is very small and light in weight. It does not require planting into the soil but firm contact with the soil is essential. Do not allow wind or runoff to move the seed from its desired planting location. A planting rate of 2-3 pounds per 1000 square feet works well. Begin watering immediately after planting to help hold the seed in its desired location.  Slit or overseeding is acceptable into cool season turfgrasses. We do not recommend seeding into ryegrass.  

Water – During seed germination the soil surface must be kept moist but avoid standing water and saturated areas. Do not allow a crust to form on the soil surface.

Germination – You should begin to see Reveilleâ plants in 14 to 21 days. Normally, additional germination will occur for two to three more weeks. The new Reveilleâ plant you see will be a very fine green hair-like blade. It is initially difficult to see. Continue to monitor watering carefully as before to prevent the fine grass blades from desiccating.

Patience – The new Reveilleâ plants will develop into multi-leaf plants over the next two to three months. Spring, summer, and fall are the active growing times for Reveilleâ in these areas. You may fertilize about three more times during this period, mow as needed or desired and water only as required to promote the establishment of your turf area.
